Kate DesBiens, MA, CCC-SLP

Kate grew up in Elmhurst and participated in many music activities through the school district and within the community. She started with band in fourth grade and continued through her sophomore year of college. She also sung with the Spirito Choir from fifth grade through freshmen year of high school. At York high school, she participated in band, orchestra, and marching band playing oboe and percussion. In the summers, she was part of the Elmhurst community band with her mom, who also grew up in Elmhurst and was in band, and her sisters. Some of her favorite memories of growing up in Elmhurst are linked to these amazing music opportunities.
 

Now that she is a speech therapist, she sees a new perspective on the importance of music in children's development. There is countless communication, motor, socioemotional, and cognitive benefits to music exposure and interaction in children. Human connection is at the core of her field, and what better way to connect with clients than through music! Kate already incorporates song and music into her therapy sessions but is so excited to start the Music Together classes with our community as well. Kate states that, "Music has always been a big part of my life. I am so happy and grateful to be able to share my love of music with my clients and the Easterseals community!"
