For some children the sights, sounds, textures, and unpredictability of Halloween can feel overwhelming. Here are a few sensory friendly strategies to help prepare your child so they can feel comfortable, confident, and ready to enjoy this time.

  1. Choose comfortable costumes: consider fabric types, tagless clothing, and familiar outfits.
  2. Prepare for the activities: Read social stories, use pictures, or even pretend to trick or treat at home
  3. Offer sensory breaks: Bring noise reducing headphones, a favorite fidget/toy, a comfort item. Consider breaks in a quiet space if needed.
  4. Explore Halloween through play: engage in pumpkin painting, sensory bins, and simple crafts
