Cooking Crew

Led by an occupational therapist and speech‑language pathologist, this program supports teamwork, communication, and executive functioning skills through hands‑on cooking activities.

This program is for children ages 13-18.

The program will be led by an occupational therapist and a speech-language pathologist, following a different recipe each week and working as a team to create various food items. 

Executive functioning skills will be targeted as children are asked to work together to determine their plan and the steps involved in carrying out the recipe. Children will also be encouraged to talk through each process to make sure that language is being used appropriately in order to communicate their thoughts effectively.  

Who Should Participate?

This program is ideal for middle school and high school students (13-18 year-olds) who:

  • Use conversational‑level language
  • Can safely navigate a kitchen environment
  • Benefit from support with planning, communication, and teamwork

Program Objectives

Participants will Improve: 

  • Social reciprocity 
  • Social problem-solving skills 
  • Executive functioning skills (e.g., planning, estimation, time management) 
  • Environmental and safety awareness in the kitchen 
  • Independence with food preparation skills   

Dates, Time & Location:

Wednesdays: 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
at Villa Park Location

Cost

There is a one-time out-of-pocket program fee of $50 for this group to cover the cost of food.
